Tokyo Jihen - 2012.01.20 - Music Station

This is Tokyo Jihen's last performance on Music Station, which aired yesterday. The band decided to pick up both the last and first singles of their career: "Konya wa Karasawagi" and "Gunjou Biyori". As usual, the instruments are all playback, but Ringo seemed to actually give an effort this time, showcasing some of her best vocals on Music Station ever. The stage includes a Phase 2 logo with the Phase 1 colors, which was a very nice touch and matches the song choices.

Much to my surprise, they didn't really talk much about the dissolution, with only some comments from Ringo and Kameda. They did have somewhat of a special focus on the show, however.

For the stalker-ish fans (like me), I've included the first few seconds of the Big Bang performance where you can see Ringo curiously looking at them in the background. I wonder what she was thinking about.

PS - I'm opting for 480p videos, since I can achieve smaller filesizes that way (200MB compared to 500MB for a 720p version). However, I'd like to hear everyone's opinions on this choice.
I've also changed Megaupload with Rapidshare, considering the recent incidents. I'll have to reupload every video on this blog as well, so before that it would be nice to know what you think of this choice too.

EMI ROCKS 2012

Even after the dissolution news, Tokyo Jihen keep treating us with (somewhat) good news.

The announced performace at the 2012 EMI ROCKS edition, on February 19, is still up, and Tokyo Jihen will perform in this festival along with other big names from EMI like Acidman, Straigthner, 9mm Parabellum Bullet and Miyavi.

Yet another event to look forward to, during these last two months of Tokyo Jihen.

The word is out: Tokyo Jihen have disbanded.

Through a series of messages from every member, posted on Kronekodow and the official band page, Tokyo Jihen announced the end of this Phase and also the band itself.

It is truly a sad day for every fan, including myself.

I can only find hope in believing that Shiina Ringo will not stop being a musician and continue her solo career.

But I'm not here to express my feelings on this matter, I have done it in other places.

Tokyo Jihen have announced a farewell tour to start next month. Tickets will be sold from January 13th to January 23rd, and the dates/venues are as follows:

Shiina Ringo - 2011.12.31 - 62th NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen

Took me a while to upload, but here is Ringo's performance at the New Year's Eve National TV Show, the 62th NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen. It's her first time performing at this important television event, after all this time, and altough Jihen are present in the stage, it's really supposed to be a solo thing, with Ringo being part of the female team or Akagumi (Red Team).

She does perform one song from her solo career, the latest single "Carnation", and afterwards a Tokyo Jihen single, "Onna no Ko wa Daredemo". It's important to notice that this live arrangement of "Carnation" is exactly the same as the one performed during the Discovery Tour, which differs greatly from the orchestrated original song.

At the beginning of the video we can see Ono Machiko, who is the star of the dorama "Carnation", and also the band Arashi, which coincidentaly has had a strong connection to Ringo for some reason I've yet to understand.

Shiina Ringo - 2011.11.11 - Music Station

I wish I didn't take so much time to upload this, but I've been too busy with ~~bad-paying-work~~ life.

This "Carnation" performance is pretty much like the Countdown TV one, with playback instruments included. It's nothing memorable. But I included the parts of the show where Ringo was interviewed, as well as a small segment where children watch and react to "Koufukuron" and "Honnou", much to Ringo's embarrassment. I don't mean to sound creepy, but she's irresistibly cute when she starts panicking.

Shiina Ringo - 2011.10.29 - Countdown TV

The first televised performance of Ringo's newest single, "Carnation". Last time Ringo performed on CDTV was back in 2007, four years ago, during the Heisei Fuuzoku promotion.

Altough there's the whole orchestra there, plus Tokyo Jihen members, it seems to me that with the exception of her voice, everything else is playback. I'm not a great fan of this song, but the vocals are amazing and the stage has this huge feel similar to what we find in the PV. Altough I was expecting her to use the same wig.

New Ringo song titled "32歳の別れ"

Just to report on some news which seem to be slightly ignored by the westen community.

Tokyo Jihen's set-list for yesterday's show had a slight change in the Encore section, where they decided to replace "Yoake no Uta" with a new Ringo penned song, called "32歳の別れ" (32-sai no Wakare; Farewell My 32 Years). Before presenting the new song, she told the audience she was a bit nervous to play it because it was still being worked on and the band didn't really rehearse much.
I must say I was a little sceptical at first, because Ringo is turning 33 in November 25th, so it almost sounded like a joke. But maybe this means this stage of her life was very important for her. There's also the possibility that this is not the final title, considering how the song is still being worked on.

This new song brings to 5 the number of solo tracks released after Daihakken: "Carnation" plus two B-Sides, "Between Today and Tomorrow" and now "32-sai no Wakare". I guess a new solo album release is turning out to be more and more expected.

Shiina Ringo - 2005.07.08 - Bokura no Ongaku 2

This episode of Bokura no Ongaku 2 focuses on Mukai Shuutoku, former member of Number Girl and founder of Zazen Boys, but Shiina Ringo is the second guest, given her relationship with Shuutoku and the fact that they are both band leaders. They talk with each other about their careers throughout the episode and then there are two live performances, altough I only included the first one, which is a duet with Ringo.

"KIMOCHI", the performed song, is originally from Zazen Boys first album, but here we're presented with a slower duet version. Ringo also collaborated on their second album, with back-vocals for three tracks.

One of the things I'd like to hear her say, when Mukai Shuutoku asked her if she had any big dreams, she said she wanted to have a second marriage. I wonder if she still feels the same in 2011.

She also mentions that Sonata, her son, calls her "Haha" instead of "Mama", which is more tradional. And he tells her things like "What's with those dresses mother?".

Surprisingly, she also says she hopes to have a daughter, to somehow compensate for the fact she always grew up wanting a sister.

It's a very endearing interview and performance, I'd say.

Shiina Ringo - 1996.10.10 - Music Quest '96

Look what I found! Shiina Ringo singing back in 1996. How nostalgic! Even though I only started listening to her in 2007.

Before signing up any record deal, and after she dropped out of school, Ringo participated in Yamaha's annual Music Quest contest. It was another try at success to kick-start her music career, after the previous year attempt, but this time she performed her own song, the later-to-be smash-hit "Koko de Kissu Shite". It was also the first time she publicly used her stage-name, Shiina Ringo, instead of Shiina Yumiko. In the end, the Grand Prize went to Takashi Taniguchi, but she managed an Excellence Prize and grabbed attention from all major record labels. She ended up signing with Toshiba EMI.

Funny fact: singer-songwriter aiko also participated in this contest, just like in the Teen's Music Festival '95.

Considering how the 5th edition of Music Quest was the last one, after which Yamaha decided to make normal auditions only, we can thank Ringo for not postponing her participation in the contest, as it would have undoubtedely changed her career in ways we can not imagine!

Shiina Ringo - "Carnation" tracklist revealed

Just a few days before the opening concert of the Discovery Tour, there has been a lot of information coming out regarding Shiina Ringo and her solo music projects.

This time it seems the cover for "Carnation" has been revealed, along with the tracklist.

Yet Another Solo Ringo Single

After collaborating in many projects as a music director/collaborator, Shiina Ringo is once again involved in another project. The ballet documentary "今日と明日の間で" (Kyou to Asu no Aida de) starring dancer/actor 首藤康之 (Yasuyuki Shuto), will have the english titled track "Between Today and Tomorrow" as its theme song, which is the exact translation of the japanese title. Altough it seems it was the english name who appeared first.

Similarly to what happened with the Sakuran movie, she will work with Saitou Neko again in what seems to be an instrumental only piece. Ringo will play the piano herself. Altough we're left unsure if this will have a vocal version as well, or even if there will actually be more tracks.

I'm not exactly sure, but from what I can gather the documentary will be an autobiography of Yasuyuki Shuto himself, directed by 小林潤子 (Kobayashi Junko). I'll probably try to add more information after more research, but what you really need to know is that it's set to be released in January 17, 2012.

This certainly seems to bring more hope for a new solo album, along with the 3-track single "Carnation" which has its release date settled for November 2nd. We're talking about 4 solo tracks already!

Tokyo Jihen - 2010.11.06 - EMI ROCKS

Considering there's a new EMI ROCKS festival announced for February 19, 2012, here's what we have of the first one, where Tokyo Jihen performed.

BS Fuji broadcasted a 2 hour program covering the festival, but only included 2 or 3 performances for each artist, which left us with "OSCA", "FOUL" and "Killer Tune". However, it doesn't seem the performances were much different from the ones found in the Ultra C Tour earlier that year (altough Ringo sounds a bit drunk which is cool), so we're probably not missing out much. Except for the fact that they performed two songs from "Daihakken", which we haven't heard live anywhere yet: "Tengoku he Yokouso" and "Dopamint!". Hopefully one day I'll get the complete setlist.

EMI ROCKS was a one day festival at Saitama Super Arena to celebrate EMI's 50th anniversary, with around 10 of their biggest rock bands performing, including Acidman, Tomoyasu Hotei, Miyavi, 9mm Parabellum Bullet, Base Ball Bear and others. But apparently the fun doesn't stop there, because there's another EMI ROCKS planned and we still don't know if Tokyo Jihen will make an appearance, but I say it's very likely.

Shiina Ringo - New Single "Carnation"

Just to get a little update done on this blog.

I've had ~~little time~~ no time whatsoever in the last weeks. But there are exciting news I want to share with everyone.

Shiina Ringo is releasing a new solo single! It's another dorama tie-in, just like "Ariamaru Tomi", so I'm hoping it'll give us the same hope for the future (new solo album much?).

Both the song and dorama are titled カーネーション (Carnation) and from what I can gather, the main theme will be motherhood. The story is based on the (real) life of fashion designer Ayako Koshino, who passed away in 2006 and is the mother of three women who are now at the top of the japanese fashion industry. It will portray her life from the teenage years through her fifties. An interesting fact is that Chiaki Kuriyama is part of the cast, one of Ringo's inseparable friends.

The dorama starts airing October 3rd, so there's bound to be some previews of the song by September. There's no release date for the single, yet.

MUSICA July 2011 Scans

Today is the release of Daihakken, and three days ago was the 2nd birthday of this blog. But that's not what I want to talk about now!

Here are the scans for the July edition of MUSICA magazine, featuring Tokyo Jihen on the cover. They did a great photoshoot at the National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo, altough I was hoping for even more photos. There's a huge interview with Ringo and another huge interview with the guys. If anyone wants, I can scan it.

By the way, I think these scans are better than the last ones I did, for Rockin' On Japan, because I learned a few tricks, so I'm thinking about redoing those in the near future. I want the maximum quality achievable!

I tried my best at the romaji convertions and translations, so hopefully they're not that bad, but it's probably better to wait for a more reliable source of translations. It looks like the symmetry isn't really present in this album. Sure, the number of kanji is the same for every correspondant track, but I don't see much similarity between "海底に巣くう男" and "21世紀宇宙の子". And why is the last track a Bonus Track? Maybe I'm missing something here...

Shiina Ringo - 2011.05.20 - Music Station

Here is the latest Music Station performance. Ringo was there without the band, promoting the single "女の子は誰でも" as if it was her own. Likely for the same reason why the Shiseido ads had to be changed to feature a Ringo-only version of the song: Hata's incident with the police.

Anyway, she didn't talk much during the whole show, but really had a great finale performance, even tho the vocals were just plain mediocre. We know she doesn't seem to put much effort into any Music Station performance, but I think this song really deserved it.

I should start adding these to the Music Station's posts... they're usually quite cute or funny. I'm not sure what she's saying in this one, but I could swear it's some kind of comment about men's (男) transpiration (汗), because the guests had some kind of chat about that kind of scent. Oh well.

Current Incidents

So let's just recap everything that has happened in the last 24 or so hours.

The new album has finally been announced, and on such happy short notice: the release date is June 29, only just a month and a half from today. The title of the album is 大発見 (Dai Hakken), which means "Great Discovery" or "Breakthrough", which leads us to the likely overall theme of the 5th Jihen album: wild-life/nature television. For some reason, there's no english equivalent translation working as official reading (for now), so it seems to be the first album since "Kyoiku" to have a japanese reading title only.

It will contain 13 tracks, 4 of them being the previously released singles "天国へようこそ", "ドーパミント！", "空が鳴っている" and "女の子は誰でも". That's one less new song compared to Sports, but at least the first two singles will be re-arranged versions.

There is no mention of "夜明けのうた" being included, but I figure it's very unlikely, considering it's a cover and was released for a very specific purpose. There's, however, a new song that we can listen already in the new Tokyo Subway CM, called "新しい文明開化" (Atarashii Bunmeikaika), which means "The New Civilization and Enlightenment Movement". For curiosity's sake, the Bunmeikaika was a movement in the Meiji Period which benefited the westernization of Japan.

Lastly, the complete info about the previously mentioned new tour has been released. Following the name of the album, it'll be called Tokyo Jihen Live Tour 2011 Discovery, and will encompass 20 days of performances, starting September 30 and ending December 2. Too bad for me, I was hoping they'd tour in 2012, because there's no way I'll have enough money to attend this year.

Nevertheless, I like how it seems that they're going for a sort of Art Nouveau/Art Deco style with the font chosen. It matches the "Onna no Ko wa Daredemo" PV and also the choice for the credits song in the previous tour, "Rhapsody in Blue". I'm addicted to Art Deco, you see :)

Hello there everyone.

I don't have much free time in my hands, so let's just skip to the point.

Tokyo Jihen are back with band activities and they spared no efforts into compensating for making us wait so long. The first news we know, released by Kronekodow, are that the postponed single for "Sora ga Natteiru" is going to be released May 11. The second news is that the band is going on another national-wide tour this year. Not much is known besides that, but you bet it screams New Album too.

Other than that, I want you all to notice the new addition in the left-side column: "Songs and Lives". Just check it out, I think it's going to be useful. Thank Yahiko (besides me), for this community effort.

Shiina Ringo and Tokyo Jihen CMs

The recently "released" new songs are being used as tie-ins with two major ad campaigns, having started this month. "Sora ga Natteiru" works as the theme song for the new Glico Watering KissMint promotional campaign, while "Onna no Ko wa Daredemo" is coupled with Shiseido Maquillage.

However, despite being Tokyo Jihen songs, only Ringo appears in the actual CMs. What's more, even the songs are not the Tokyo Jihen versions, but different ones, due to the Hata Toshiki incident/scandal, something that certainly made both Glico and Shiseido demand a Ringo-only version of the songs.

Fortunately, Glico uploaded the normal versions before any incident happened, so I got those too. Here's the list of what's in this ZIP file.

Shiina Ringo - 2009.05.02 - Kame no Ongaeshi

It seems Hata Toshiki's recent "incident" with the authorities gave us the need for something else to listen to, while waiting for the unknown-to-be-released next Tokyo Jihen single and TV performances.

So here's the whole Ringo performance at Kame no Ongaeshi, Kameda Seiji's own show, which was a 2 days event where a bunch of artists he produced made live performances. As far as I know, there was supposed to be a DVD release for this, but the project was probably scrapped. So who knows? Ken Hirai duets with Ringo in "put your camera down", by the way.

For now, there's only bootlegs, and this one seems to have the highest quality and was provided to me by Yahiko.

Tokyo Jihen - 2006.07.02 - Society of the Citizens Vol.1

What better way to wait for Jihen's soon-to-be-released new single, than to listen to one of the greatest performances the band has ever given? That's what I bring to you!

This is one of the most sought-after Tokyo Jihen bootlegs ever, and someone over at KMC was kind enough to (finally) share it with all us westerners. The audio quality of the original files is fine, but I had to tweak the channels a bit to actually put it in great condition, in my honest opinion. The original files had the band playing in the left channel and the audience clapping in the right channel, so I tried to center everything, without really losing the stereo.

Hata Toshiki was absent from this performance due to an arm injury back then, so Yasuo Sano (佐野康夫) played that part. Some members from ZAZEN BOYS also performed along with the band in "Mirror Ball" and "Service". Ringo sang two duets with them, during their own concert at this festival, but I don't have those.

Just enjoy this amazing concert. And here's hoping that I update this blog more often...

Yet Another New Tokyo Jihen Song

After "Tengoku he Youkoso", Tokyo Jihen are putting out another song called "Dopamint!". Like the dorama-coupled song, this one is going to be coupled with the new ads for Watering KissMint, like "Kachii Ikusa" and "Noudouteki Sanpunkan" before.

You can watch both 15sec and 30sec ads in Kronekodow's or Tokyo Jihen's official website.

I wonder if there's going to be a new album soon, or just some kind of EP.

New Tokyo Jihen song

You know this blog is not intended to be a news blog, but I just read from my friend Orenji's blog: Tokyo Jihen are coming out with a new song. Pretty exciting news, uh? The song is called "Tengoku he Youkoso" (天国へようこそ), which roughly translates to "Welcome to Heaven", and will be used as the Theme Song for the new dorama called Atami no Sousakan which starts July 30.

The song will first be available as ringtone in July 21 and then on iTunes in July 28. It is also known that the lyrics were written by Shiina Ringo, as usual.

1st Anniversary

One year ago from this day, I created this blog. Its purpose was to give access to the non-official and often rare files that most fans have a hard time finding. Its purpose was to compile everything, to organize what was usually scattered in a sea of obscurity and give it a place to be found. Its purpose was to take no credit, but to share.

More importantly, its fundamental purpose was to help the Shiina Ringo fan.

I think that purpose is being met with every post I make and it pleases me to know that excluding one small incident with one angry fan, my methods have made this year go by peacefully. My hope is that I can continue to help the Ringo community, especially the non-japanese fans like me.

Remember that no file is locked to this blog: share it wherever and with whoever you want :)

PS - I was hoping to have something nice to upload today, alas my time has been very short. School ends July 2nd and the weeks have been a very turbulent stream of assignment deadlines!

The Top Runner episode someone requested! The 3 performances in this TV show have very interesting new arrangements (Yume no Ato isn't very different tho) and so I think it's very worth the watch/listen. Ringo talks about her life and career, with some photos from her youth to ilustrate, which is also interesting of course.

Tokyo Jihen - 2004.07.30 - FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL '04

Got this video this morning so decided to upload. It's the FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL '04 show that was broadcasted on television. Unfortunately it's only 3 songs out of the complete 15, but it doesn't seem the whole recording is easy to find, so here's the upload. Also found the video uploaded to YouTube by someone else, so you can watch it there instead of downloading.

Shiina Ringo - 2007.03.13 - Angela Aki Documentary

I think this is definitely my most unusual upload. It's a TV documentary for Angela Aki's 2006 concert in Budokan, narrated by Shiina Ringo. It's called 武道館に桜が咲いた日 (The Day the Cherry Blossoms Bloomed in Budokan). I only actually heard about this last week, and I guess it probably went a little bit overlooked by us Ringo fans.

There's actually a part where Angela Aki shows the setlist of Suguroku Xstasy, which she attended (in Budokan), and she kept it as a memento since then, promising herself that one day she would perform on that very stage herself.

It is known Aki and Ringo are friends, but unfortunately they never appear together in this video. There's only a small clip from the "Koufukuron" performance from Electric Mole.

Unfortunately there are no subtitles, but Ringo's polite narration voice is always amazing to listen to! I included a chapter in the MP4 so you can skip to the part where Aki shows the Suguroku Xstasy setlist.

1TB Problems

I'm not sure if I should or shouldn't post this here, because it could be pointless, but today an accident just happened and my 1TB external hard-drive fell on the ground and now it's not working. And I just had pretty much all my Ringo/Jihen bootleg collection there. I'm going to try to fix it, but it's probably going to take some time (hopefully no more than 2 weeks), so I won't be able to make any uploads until then.

Sorry to everyone who was expecting some more life from this blog since the two last posts.

Here's something I figured would be an easy upload. Found it recently on jpopsuki and even tho it's not a remarkable performance (only the vocals are live), it was still important promotion for the beginning of Phase 1, since many big names in the japanese pop music industry performed in this SUPERLIVE. It *was* a big television event.

Anyway, there you have it. It's "Gunjou Biyori", it's not amazing, it's your typical Music Station performance (this time with bonus pyrotechnics) but it's Phase 1 and HZM is worth watching!

Woah, it has been a LONG time since I last posted here. Largely due to my lack of time, but also because there hasn't been much activity from Ringo or the band. I also feel like I already posted the most important files I wanted to share with you guys. But I do want to keep this blog alive and useful, that's why my idea is to have you request any file you want, as long as it doesn't break the rules (no official releases, etc), and I'll try to upload it if I have it in my collection. Tokyo Jihen - New Watering KissMint TV Ad

It seems the Watering KissMint advertisement campaign didn't die with the last tv ad. A new one was released a couple of days ago, were we can listen to a small portion of "Kachi Ikusa", coupled with more Ringo randomness.

I should say it sounds awesome. There is slightly more excitement about this album now, for me. February 24 can't come soon enough!

Tokyo Jihen - Noudouteki Sanpunkan PV

Hey there folks! It's finally here, Tokyo Jihen's new song/PV! As you remember from my last post, the song is called "Noudouteki Sanpunkan" (pretty unpronounceable, I know) or just "3min", the official english translation. The song's duration is 3 minutes by the way (surprise!).

Anyway, I wasn't very excited about these Tokyo Jihen news, but the song is unexpectedly good. Maybe it's really just because I was expecting something bad, who knows. I do think the video is pretty good if not one of their best videos yet and altough the Michael Jackson references first seem out of place, let's not forget the funky groove and well, the fact that it could be a tribute to the deceased artist.
Still, I think the best approach to this is to just continue unhyped and hopefully get a decent B-Side and then an enjoyable album. The Adultish sound of this new song could also tell us something about the album, unless it's titled Variety 2. Remember how "OSCA" didn't tell us anything about the final sound of Variety? Exactly.

Tokyo Jihen - New Single, Album and Tour

Exactly one month has passed since my last post, but finally here I am again. Through internetless times and busy weeks, I'm once again available to take care of this special place!

But for now I'm just going to "update" everyone on what has been "updated" some weeks ago: Tokyo Jihen's new moves!
First, we have a single released December of this year. It's called "Noudouteki Sanpunkan" (能動的三分間).

Ringo will be in charge of the lyrics for both songs, but only the lead track will be composed by her. "Gaman" will be composed by Ichiyou Izawa. As for translations, the first track means something like "3 Minutes of Activity", but the official translation from kronekodow is just "3min". The second track means "Endurance".
So if there was any doubt about the theme of this single, there shouldn't be any by now: Tokyo Jihen are into sports now.

And that seems to also be true for the rest of the album where this single will be included, altough there is no title or release date so far. But it should be soon, since there is yet another annoucement: a nationwide tour in 2010.

Tokyo Jihen live tour 2010 Ultra C is the name of this new tour, which will span 22 concerts, from March 26 to June 23. It will be used to promote the new album, but I'm not sure if there's going to be a DVD release of the tour, like what happened with 2007's Spa & Treatment tour. I just think it all seems too fast to be any kind of "big thing", like in the Dynamite Out days, where not 1 but 2 DVDs were released. This is my opinion tho, of course.

Tokyo Jihen - COUNTDOWN JAPAN 09/10

According to the popular j-music website Natalie.mu, Tokyo Jihen will perform at this year's COUNTDOWN JAPAN, a yearly event that starts December 28 and goes all the way into the new year.
Tokyo Jihen were there in 2006 as well, where they performed a pre-Heisei Fuuzoku version of "Oiran" (which I love). Let's hope this year's performance will bring us something to be excited with. But on the other hand, I also hope they do announce some more stuff for this year, because December is still a little bit far away.
The band will perform on December 30 and you can check the other artists at COUNTDOWN JAPAN here.

Shiina Ringo - 2000.07.30 - Zazen Xstasy

I consider Zazen Xstasy to be one of Ringo's most important concerts ever. It was a one night show, only available to a restricted number of fans, and with a setlist composed of tons of B-Sides, instead of the cliché songs. Some of them had interesting new arrangements and overall the performances were great. Also, it was the first and only Ringo concert to be broadcast live through the internet, with the choppy video/audio quality of the year 2000. And someone ripped it.
For some time, that rip and other audience recordings where the only way for anyone to experience the greatness of this concert. However, as everyone knows, we got lucky and in 2008 EMI released a great quality DVD with the full concert... Or was it? Not really! For some reason they decided to cut one of the songs, "Haikei EMI-dono", which is a cover of Sex Pistols' "EMI".

So what I've got here is the rip of the web streaming of the concert, which contains MC parts excluded from the DVD and also the Sex Pistols cover. But as you can guess, the audio quality is pretty crappy (and from what I saw of the video, that one is crappy too), so fortunately I also got hold of a audience recording bootleg of the "Haikei EMI-dono" song which sounds so much better.

I think the better option here is to keep the web rip because of the MCs (unless you don't care about those things) and then put "Haikei EMI-dono" along with the DVD rips of Zazen Xstasy (which I don't provide), in the order I will show bellow.

Shiina Ringo - MY FOOLISH HEART PV + News

Okay, this was unexpected. So it seems SOIL&"PIMP"SESSIONS released a PV for the Ringo featuring song, "MY FOOLISH HEART ～crazy on earth～×椎名林檎". That said, there's no Ringo or apples on the video, at all. Leave a comment if you can see any reference to our lady please!

Update: According to the SOIL&"PIMP"SESSIONS website, there's a new arrangement of "MY FOOLISH HEART" called "MY FOOLISH HEART～Crazy in Shibuya～" which was released today on the japanese iTunes store and also as Chaku-Uta (ringtone).

If you have access to it, don't waste time and go buy the song, because it's a limited time release!

Shiina Ringo - 1999.08.12 - Tamentai Telepathy

Tamentai Telepathy, or 多面体テレパシー (meaning Polyhedron Telepathy), is another Space Shower TV special program about Shiina Ringo. First broadcasted two months before the release of the "Honnou" single, it's a hour long interview with Ringo, mostly shot in b/w. There are some clips of her PVs and other kinds of footage, but it's mostly b/w. The highlight of this whole interview is that Ringo has a realistic (toy) gun with her and at some points waves her carelessly around. Reminds me of her "Yokushitsu" performance at Ringo EXPO 08.
Anyway, like any other Ringo interview, it's a bit useless without an english translation, something I would like to provide but can't. Maybe one day...

Shiina Ringo - 2000.08.30 - Kyuudan Recycle

Kyuudan Recycle, or 糾弾リサイクル (meaning Blame Recycle), is a special program made and broadcasted by Space Shower TV, first airing some weeks before the release of Zecchoushuu. Like the name implies, it's a "recycling" of old interviews, mainly Tamentai Telepathy and Yuuhatsu Orgasm. At the end of the program there's the PV for "Yattsuke Shigoto" along with a small Zecchoushuu ad.
Sadly, there is no english translation of this, so I guess it's not very useful to us non-japanese fans. I wonder if anyone out there is available to translate these kinds of interviews? Because I got a bunch here.

Small update on NHK SONGS audio

I was listening to the NHK SONGS audio rips for the first time in a couple of months, and finally decided it was time to redo them. The thing is, the volume is too low because I didn't adjust the levels like I should, so everytime the songs come up I need to raise the volume manually. Which is annoying, of course.
There are ways to fix this, for example with Foobar's Audio Gain or with iTunes Volume Adjustment, but I guess it's easier if the files already have the gain applied. Which is what I did.
So I updated the correspondent posts with the new links, while keeping the old ones as well, in case someone wants them.

Shiina Ringo - 2007.06.00 - Sannin Kichisa

Oh my god! I've been looking for this video for so long! Finally!

Ok, excuse me for my happiness. What we have here is a video of Nakamura Kanzaburou XVIII's kabuki play called "Sannin Kichisa", that was on stage during the month of June, 2007 (related post). More exactly, the part where the song "Tamatebako", that Ringo wrote for Kenzaburou, is playing in the background.
It was later broadcasted on television in some occasions (August and September 2007, for example).

I (fortunately) got an audio rip of the song back in the day, but the video was nowhere to be found. I searched and searched the darkest places of internet, but nothing! Shiina Ringo - 2000.01.24 - Pop Jam

I do not have much information about this special episode of PopJam, but I suppose it isn't anything very important. What you see in the video is Ringo performing a slightly-short version of "Honnou" with most (if not all) of Gyakutai Glycogen's members. In the second part, Ringo acts has co-host of the show and makes a small comment about the Morning Musume performance (not included) and then presents the popular band The Yellow Monkey. But first comes a comedy duo pretending to be members of the band, only to be teased at by the real members that appear afterwards. They then have a joke performance of the song "JAM", which was used as theme song of PopJam at the time. During that time Ringo is next to them and exchanges some words, but nothing really important.

I completely forgot about this piece of news. Well, it has been annouced that Ringo would be featured in Soil&"Pimp"Sessions new album, called 6, but only recently have more details been released. And the album is hitting stores pretty soon! Anyway, here's the tracklist:

I should have done this before making this post, but well... nothing I can do now except update. With exciting additions!
So it seems the Ringo collaboration has been playing in some japanese radios for at least 2 weeks, so the full version must be around somewhere. For now, here's what I found: 30 seconds previews for track 4 and 9.

This confirms that track 4 is in fact a more up-tempo arrangement of track 9. And I got to admit, altough kind of perplexed at first, I'm loving Ringo's participation. Completely different from anything we heard before, right? I just think her voice is a bit too low, but maybe it's just in the preview.
Also, here's the link to the site where you can hear the previews for every track in the album. Let's hope I don't get in any trouble for linking their site...

PS - The tags of the WMAs are unchanged, except that I added the album name and track numbers. I'm saying this because they are different from the ones found on Soil&"Pimp"Session's official website, which I have used in this posts. Those are the correct tags.

Shiina Ringo - 2000.04.26 - Gekokujyo Xstasy

Remember this other post? Well, aparently someone was kind enough to provide this other nice bootleg of the same Gekokujyo Concert, at NHK Hall. I call it bootleg but it's actually a professional recording (video and audio) that just wasn't for sale. Alas, the video quality isn't impressive, and most of the times the picture is too dark, but I think it is well worth it. The higher resolution of the picture also provides a (much) better experience than the Kyoei Buranko video. Unfortunately, I couldn't compress it to less than ~900MB, because I didn't want to risk the picture quality with a lossy encode of an already lossy DVD source. However, you will agree that it's better than 2 DVD ISOs (~8GB), right? It's also almost 2 hours of video.
Anyway, that aside, I replaced the cover image of the previous post to one that now includes a "Fan Recording Version" label, so for this new version I will use the previous cover. The reason for this is that you will notice these MP3s sound much much better than the fan-recorded ones, which means this bootleg will be the standard for this concert. The other bootleg is still going to be available tho.
So I guess that's it! Enjoy.

Shiina Ringo - 1995.05.14 - Teen's Music Festival '95

Here's a really old one, from 1995. To be more exact, this isn't solo Ringo per se, but instead her pre-debut band Marvelous Marble, that was composed of the following members:

Vocal: 椎名裕美子 (Shiina Yumiko)
Guitar: 津田由貴子 (Tsuda Yukiko)
Bass: 中川愛 (Nakagawa Ai)
Keys: 末永いずみ (Suenaga Izumi)
Drums: 時津梨乃 (Tokitsu Rino; Drummer of Roletta Secohan during 1998-2008)

They participated in the 9th edition of Yamaha's Teen's Music Festival, with hopes of getting the grand prize. At the end, they only got an Encouragement Award (奨励賞), in the Earnest Award (ひたむき賞) category. The grand prize went to singer aiko.
The song they chose to perform, "Just Missed the Train", is actually a cover of the original version by Trine Rein (1993), and not by Dannielle Brisebois (1994) like the video says, because the lines Ringo sings at the end of the video are only found on Trine Rein's version. That said, I think any of those versions of the song are pretty good and Ringo's is too. The sad part is there's no recording of the complete performance, at least that I know of, so we only get a 1:22 clip... Well, better than nothing! Here it is.

What's nice about this is not exactly the performance itself, but more her looks. Ringo, you were a freak back in the day! EMI has just released a preview video for the "Tsugou no Ii Karada" PV. As previously reported, the PV will be included in Seiteki Healing 4, released 26 this month. It was uploaded on YouTube and you can watch it here:

Tokyo Jihen - 2004.07.25 - Meet the World Beat 04

Haven't put Tokyo Jihen stuff up in a while, so here is something nice. Meet the World Beat, like Sweet Love Shower, is one of the many usual summer music festivals in Japan. In 2004, soon after the formation of the band, Tokyo Jihen performed in the the grass fields of the Expo '70 Commemorative Park, near Osaka. In fact, they participated in 4 different festivals that summer, this one being the smallest in terms of number of songs.
Needless to say, it's a pretty nice concert and the setlist has something for everyone's taste. I really like the "Tsumiki Asobi" arrangement, by the way.

Shiina Ringo - 1999.09.05 - Sweet Love Shower '99

Here is another concert from 1999, Sweet Love Shower '99, one month before the release of the yet-to-be super popular "Honnou". Actually, it was in this concert that Ringo first performed that song, so it's amusing to see that the audience doesn't really react to the opening lines, contrary to want happens currently (see Ringo EXPO 08). But I really like every performance in this concert. Gyakutai Glycogen is the backing band and you shouldn't miss Kameda with his amazing mohawk, playing the bass.
About the files, the audio is pretty decent quality, since we're talking about a Space Shower TV broadcast and not some audience recording. For the MP3s I picked a different source than the video, and they should present no kind of problem. As for the video, I had actually different sources for each performances, so I did my best to merge them all into one single contiguous video. You may notice changes in video quality but I think I can guarantee that nothing is missing.

Shiina Ringo - 2005.08.03 - LENS

LENS is a theatre play by Kentarou Kobayashi Produce (KKP), the 4th production in a number of 6 plays so far, whose Music Director was Shiina Ringo. She used "STEM~Daimyou Asobi hen~" as the theme song for the play: it's used as opening and ending song, and sometimes an instrumental version is heard playing in the background.
The play ran for 9 days in Japan, in two different theatres, during the month of July, 2004. One of those days (I'm not sure which one) was recorded for DVD, released on August 3, 2005, which is available at Amazon.co.jp and other places. What I upload here is not the film itself, but only the parts with Ringo "presence", both in video and audio. Also included is the full instrumental version of "Meisai", KZK arrangement, that plays during the DVD menu, which was a complete surprise to me since I never heard about it. The sound is slightly grainy, but that's how it is in the DVD, so it's probably intentional to make it sound like it's being played through an old gramophone.

About the story of the play, I have not watched it yet, but I think it's a detective story in a old library, where something happened and they are trying to find the culprit... That is as much informative as I can be! Well, it obviously also involves some kind of detective lens as a central piece of the story.
It also shares elements and characters with Hyaku-iro Megane, the short film. In fact, Kobayashi Kentarou is the main character of that short film and this play. He even dresses the same way and with STEM being the theme song in both cases, there's clearly some kind of connection between the two.
By the way, the plays are from July 2004, like I said, which means right between Electric Mole and "Gunjou Biyori" single, the transition between solo and band.

That said... there's really not much more information I can give for now, as there is not much english sources. After I watch the movie, I'll update this post if I find anything else worthwhile.

Shiina Ringo - 1999.11.30 - Kyoei Buranko

Another bootleg, this time with a video. Kyoei Buranko was a one day performance in Club Asia, Tokyo, very soon after Manabiya Xstasy. In fact, the tracklist is very similar and the backing band is the same, Tensai Praeparat. Ringo's outfit is also the same...
The original video had audio problems in the first two songs and UFO, so I replaced those with some MP3s I got a long time ago. They are from the exact same concert and are synchronized with the original audio, so don't get worried. The only thing you'll notice is a small difference in the volume. I didn't replace the Pink Lady songs that play at the beginning and ending because it was not worth the effort, in my opinion.
As for the video quality, I suppose it was a recording from Club Asia's staff, because there's only one camera but it's stabilized on a tripod and pans smoothly. Nevertheless, the image is very dark and blurry most of the time (see the cover bellow), which is a shame. I still enjoy watching it anyway, because it's a look into the beginning of Ringo's career, before letucce hats, antler cobwebs and chic dresses were the norm in her live performances.

Shiina Ringo - 2007.02.23 - Bokura no Ongaku 3

Two days after the release of the album Heisei Fuuzoku, Shiina Ringo was the guest of this Bokura no Ongaku episode. Interviewed by the baseball player Suzuki Ichiro, to whom she (or rather Tokyo Jihen) gave the song "Superstar" to be used as his theme in 2006, when he played for the Japan National Baseball Team. Later in 2007, she gave him "Identity" and "Yokushitsu" as theme songs for other games. Apparently he doesn't like the word Superstar that much, despite being called one all the time, and claims to skip the song when listening to the album Adult, which probably puts Ringo in a awkward position. Kameda wrote the song tho...
Anyway, the performances aren't really that amazing and she doesn't seem to put too much emotion into them. Maybe she was still shocked with Ichiro's claims!

Another nice bootleg, this time from the April 26 Gekokujyo Xstasy concert at NHK Hall. GX was her first big tour around Japan, spanning 16 concerts, from April to June of 2000. What you can find on the official Gekokujyo Xstasy DVD is a mix of different performances from the tour, but this bootleg is one full concert from start to finish.
The band supporting Ringo in this time was also Gyakutai Glycogen, like in Gekikou Quantize and Zazen Xstasy.

Shiina Ringo - 2007.01.19 - Music Station

Shiina Ringo and her brother Shiina Junpei were guests in this episode of Music Station, two days after the release of the single "Kono Yo no Kagiri". This performance is only live in the vocal side, because the instruments are all pre-recorded, as is usual in Music Station. It isn't exceptionally good and worth the time, like mostly other Music Station Ringo performances. I have a theory that she does it on purpose...
Anyway, one important thing about this is that it was the first Ringo live performance I ever saw in my life. Basically I got addicted with "Kono Yo no Kagiri", the song, and then automatically grabbed this episode of M-Ste and soon afterwards bought HF and then... here I am today. So "KNYNK" has a special importance for me, because it was the song that lead me to Ringo.

Shiina Ringo - 2000.11.25 - Gekikou Quantize

This is a recording of the concert Gekikou Quantize, where Ringo performed with her backing band Gyakutai Glycogen, the same one she used in Zazen Xstasy. It was a one day concert, to mark her 22nd birthday and possibly to promote the recently released Zecchoushuu, altough she only performed one song from that CD. Overall it's very good and provides some nice covers as well.
As is normal with most bootlegs, the sound quality isn't amazing, but enough to enjoy what once was Shiina Ringo. Ironically, I advise not to put the volume very loud tho.

Shiina Ringo - Seiteki Healing 4

It has been confirmed by Kronekodow that the 6th video in Seiteki Healing 4 will, in fact, be a credit roll video, but not with "Mittei Monogatari" as speculated: instead, "Marunouchi Sadistic (EXPO ver.)".
This means that we'll only get "Mittei Monogatari (Saturday Night Gossip ver.)" on the vinyl, unless it gets a digital release. Otherwise it will possibly become a rare "item", even tho it's not that hard to convert analog into digital these days.
But it also means I have more reasons to do that AMV I was planning, since "Mittei Monogatari" won't get an official video. Hmmmm...

Soon after the release of Karuki Zamen Kuri no Hana, Shiina Ringo performed two songs in this News Station episode. Both performances resemble anything found on Baishou Xstasy or Heisei Fuuzoku. Actually they're pretty much the same arrangements.
The stage features the famous two kimono set (black and white) that represent KZK, as well as some other kimono in the background. And I must say that Ringo was very beautiful in this point of her career.

Sadistic Gossip Wallpapers

I decided to upload some Ringo wallpapers I did. There are only two resolutions available, but hopefully you will be able to adjust one or the other to your own display resolution.

1280x1024 on the left and 1280x800 on the right.

I made them mostly with scans provided by my friend papi (thank you!). Oh, and I'm currently using the second one because it's always nice to see Ringo put (or take?) some panties.

PS: I noticed the colors are a bit off for some of these wallpapers, when viewed in another monitor. They are very saturated in the monitor I'm using now. Well, that's normal, every monitor has different color settings. But you can always use Photoshop or something to control the levels and colors. Just thought I should mention this.

Tokyo Jihen - 2007.09.21 - Bokura no Ongaku 4

Just a few days before the release of Variety, Tokyo Jihen were the guests of this Bokura no Ongaku episode. Besides 3 performances, Shiina Ringo had a conversation/interview with comedian Takada Junji.
I was trying to pay attention to what they were talking about, to find out any connections between Ringo and Junji, but it's not that easy. All I know is that one of Junji's nicknames is "TJ", he performs on "variety" shows and he is called "an irresponsible man in the Heisei era" (according to wikipedia). Other than that, I'm preety clueless.
But I love how they stage the whole meeting between the two guests in the Bokura no Ongaku shows, and Ringo doesn't manage to be very credible at pretending she was totally not expecting Takada Junji to come in. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be funny or serious, but I do laugh with that.

I was browsing through some old files that are in my brother's computer, and I found one episode of JAPAN COUNTDOWN that featured Shiina Ringo, so I figured I might as well post it here. I cut the parts where Ringo appeared and merged them into one video file.

Anyway, not very interesting stuff, it was just promotion to Watashi no Hatsuden/to Houden, some days after they were released. It features the CM for both of them, which is actually the coolest part in my opinion, ahah. The video is 2 and a half minutes long.

Sadistic Gossip Master List

I'm compiling a list of all Shiina Ringo related media that I know of. I've placed a link for it on the sidebar, so that way everyone can keep updated on what's going to be released and also what has already been released. I'm aware that it's going to be a huge list because this girl really knows how to please her fans (or does she...!), but I'm in no rush to complete it. My main concern is the future releases and in the free time I'll keep "updating" with old stuff.

Besides being extremely useful for myself, I hope the list is also useful to you!

Tokyo Jihen - 2005.06.24 - Pop Jam

Some weeks before the release of the Dynamite In and Dynamite Out DVDs, Tokyo Jihen were the guests of this Pop Jam episode. This 40 minute program is very amusing because it's a trip around Tokyo, mainly the Taitou ward, with Shiina Ringo, Seiji Kameda and Mikio Hirama. Gotta love them riding the pandas. There are also many clips from Dynamite Out performances included.
It's also important to note that soon after this, both Hirama (guitarist) and HZM (keyboard) left the band and were replaced by Ukigumo and Ichiyo Izawa, respectively.

Tokyo Jihen - 2006.01.27 - Bokura no Ongaku 2

Tokyo Jihen were featured in this episode of Bokura no Ongaku 2, back in 2006. Besides performing three songs, Shiina Ringo had an interview with the famous kabuki actor Nakamura Kenzaburou XVIII, to whom she gave the song "浴室" (Yokushitsu) to be used in the March 2006 play 東海道四谷怪談 (Tokaido Yotsuya Kaidan) and the song "玉手箱" (Tamatebako) to be used as the ending theme of the June 2007 play 三人吉三 (Sannin Kichisa).
The whole program is abundant with glamour and Ringo wore very nice dresses, but the performances' quality is a bit lacking, in my opinion.

This is actually kind of hard to label, because it's a Ken Hirai concert in the J-WAVE LIVE 2000+7 set of concerts and Shiina Ringo sings "Sha La La" with him, to be joined later by Ukigumo and Izawa for "Killer Tune".
Yet, since this occured during the Variety promotion, I'm putting it under Tokyo Jihen.

Shiina Ringo - Ryuukou PV

It looks like someone decided to have the "Ryuukou" PV released before Seiteki Healing 4, either EMI or Ringo herself. It does make sense to do so, seeing how it is one most radio-friendly tracks on the album. I just wonder why they don't announce these things (at least that I'm aware of).

As for my opinion on the PV, Ringo did say the production team was short on cash and it is obvious that there isn't much going on in this video. It's not nearly as amazing as it could have been, considering the potential of the song, but the truth is I've seen much worse (read "Kenka Joutou" PV) and at least Ringo is showing this Beyoncéish attitude that puts a smile on my face.

Shiina Ringo was featured in the Space Shower TV V.I.P. special program, for the month of June 2009.
The program consists mostly of interviews regarding Sanmon Gossip and her collaborators, like Mummy-D, Soil & Pimp Sessions, J.A.M and Ikeda Takafumi. Presented in the program are also the PVs for "Ariamaru Tomi" and "Shun".
I reckon this video would be more useful if it was made available in it's broadcast date (3 days before Sanmon Gossip's release).

Shiina Ringo - 1999.11.07 - Manabiya Xstasy

Most fans already have the audio recording of the Manabiya Xstasy concert in November 02 (1999), a great tour Ringo did in her early days in four different schools in Japan.
What I also got is the recording of November 07 (1999). While the setlist is the same and the arrangements don't differ at all, this recording provides much better sound quality than the other one. It also includes all the MCs and Introduction. So after cropping the tracks better (in the original files I got some songs were split between two files), here it is for your enjoyment.

The original files I found were in CBR 128kbs, so there's not much I can do about it. Some of the "crackle" you hear are actually claps, from what I can tell.

There is some speculation regarding the 6th video in Seiteki Healing 4. The most reasonable one says that it will be a music video or credits roll for the new version of "Mittei Monogatari" included in the Vinyl, considering what happen with Tokyo Jihen's "Put Your Camera Down". Other people speculate, unreasonably, that it will be a video for "Tamatebako", the song Ringo wrote for the kabuki show "Tokaido Yotsuya Kaidan" back in 2007.
